The data we have available:
Port Information
Total port area: 12,700 hectares (127 km²)
Length along the waterfront: 40 km
Project Area: 3 km²
Average number of visiting vessels:
15–20 large electric cargo ships
20 ferries
30–40 port service vessels
Therefore, an infrastructure capable of providing charging services to approximately 25–30 vessels simultaneously is proposed.
Considering Rotterdam’s climate, the solar energy generated in a year would not be sufficient to support the port’s infrastructure; however, strong wind conditions could easily sustain it, making a mix of 30% solar and 70% wind energy an ideal distribution. In addition to this, battery storage systems, microgrid energy management, and a smart energy control center could be utilized.
The project features:
- Green roofs and solar panels
- Wood and recyclable materials
- A combination of this technology and analog methods, along with the creation of an interactive space designed for pedestrian and bicycle access
- Smart lighting
- Expansive green public spaces
- Flexible waterfront design adapted to sea-level changes
